FUNSPIEL FOR PETER GLOVER

THE OTTAWA CURLING CLUB ON O'CONNOR STREET IS HOME TO WORLD WOMEN'S CURLING CHAMPION,  RACHEL HOMEN.  THE CLUB HELPS SUPPORT THE DYNAMIC FOURSOME, BUT YOU DON'T HAVE A BE AN ELITE SHOT MAKER TO BENEFIT FROM THE CURLERS GENEROSITY; AS PETER GLOVER AND HIS WIFE,  PAT UNDERWOOD ARE LEARNING.

THE COUPLE  HAVE CURLED AT THE OTTAWA FOR OVER TEN YEARS.  THEY ARE PART OF THE TIGHT KNIT OTTAWA CURLING CLUB COMMUNITY.   SO WHEN PETER WAS DIAGNOSED WITH LOU GHERIG'S DISEASE LAST AUGUST THE OTTAWA RALLIED AROUND THE FAMILY.   THE DAY BEFORE THE RACHEL HOMEN TEAM WENT FOR GOLD IN BEJING, THE OTTAWA CLUB THREW OF FUNSPIEL, RAISING FUNDS TO HELP OFFSET SOME OF THE EXPENSES THAT ACCOMPANY A DEVASTATING DISEASE.   I DROPPED BY THE EVENT AND FOUND THAT EVEN HOMAN, EMMA MISKEW, JOANNE COURTNEY AND LISA WEAGLE HAD CONTRIBUTED TO THE EFFORT,  DESPITE THEIR HECTIC AND PRESSURE FILLED ROAD TO A WORLD GOLD.
