SALUT- CHILDREN'S AID FOUNDATION FUNDRAISER

A combination of wonderful food, beautiful wines and a great cause resulted in a successful fundraiser for the Children's Aid Foundation of Ottawa in May.   The 13th annual Salut was held at the International Restaurant  at Algonquin College.  Vic Harradine,  renowned Ottawa Sommelier and wine critic helped the guests understand the wines that were paired with each course.

It was a relaxed, fun evening with a serious purpose.  To help kids in Foster Care go on to university and college.  Without the backing and financial aid of their own families, foster children often drop out of school and end up living in poverty.

The evening's guest speaker was Alisha Bowie, a former Crown Ward of the Children's Aid Society.  She told the guests how having the support of Children's Aid helped her go on to get a university degree.

Alisha gradated before there was financial help to pay for tuition.   She is now working hard to pay off her student loans, but she is not bitter.  She told me she's glad her advocacy with Children's Aid will make it easier for today's foster kids to go on to post secondary school.
