ONE OF THE FIRST PEOPLE I MET AT THE AWARD CEREMONY WAS JOHN JEROME.  AT 84,  JOHN LIVES AT THE ALTA VISTA RETIREMENT RESIDENCE.  HE ACTIVELY ENGAGES HIS FELLOW RESIDENTS TO ENRICH THEIR LIVES.  HE ALSO VOLUNTEERS AT THE NATIONAL ART GALLERY AND VISITS RESIDENTS IN HOSPITAL OR HOSPICE.  JOHN WAS RECOGNIZED BY THE CONCIL ON AGING FOR HIS DEDICATION TO COMMUNITY.   IN CONVERSATION WITH JOHN I LEARNED OF HIS MISSIONARY WORK AND A MEETING HE HAD WITH MOTHER THERESA THAT HE BELIEVES RESULTED IN A MIRACLE FOR HIS SON.
